Care Requirements
Difficulty: Advanced (SPS)
Lighting:
High light (PAR ~300–450)
Strong blue/actinic spectrum brings out best coloration
Too little light = browning; too much too fast = bleaching
Flow:
Strong, turbulent flow
Avoid direct laminar blasts; random flow helps with gas exchange and detritus removal
Placement:
Upper third of the tank
Mount securely on rock with room to grow and good flow from multiple directions
Water Parameters (very important):
Temperature: 24–26 °C (75–79 °F)
Salinity: 1.025–1.026
Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH (keep stable)
Calcium: 420–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
Nitrate: 2–10 ppm
Phosphate: 0.02–0.08 ppm
Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic
Benefits from nutrient-rich but clean water
Occasional amino acids or fine coral foods can enhance color and growth
Growth & Behavior:
Moderate to fast growth in stable systems
Peaceful but needs space from other SPS to avoid chemical competition
Tips for Success:
Stability matters more than “perfect” numbers
Avoid rapid swings in alkalinity and nutrients
Best kept in mature reef tanks (6–9+ months old)
